Pros and Cons of BOLD
Advantages
Some advantages include:
- It’s non-invasive
- It’s more and more available
- There’s high spatial and temporal resolution
- It can visualize entire network brain areas in specific activities.
Disadvantages
Some cons include:
- We’re measuring neuronal mass activity, not neuronal units.
- We don’t yet fully understand how circulation in the brain works.
- It’s difficult to differentiate between excitation and inhibition.
- Surrounding signals may have physical and biological constraints.
